Dr. Ryan Smith will serve the university as the associate dean of clinical affairs. He will be responsible for developing the foundational framework of the clinical education program and will have input on the pre-clinical education program. That will include recruiting, outreach and development of clinical institutional relationships.
Smith is a board-certified psychiatrist and is a Diplomat and Fellow of the American Osteopathic Board of Neurologists and Psychatrists. Before joining IUP, he was with the Orlando Health Sciences University’s Orlando college of osteopathic medicine, where he served in a similar role. He also continues to serve as an adjunct professor of psychiatry at osteopathic medicine schools in Maine, Philadelphia and New Hampshire.
In a statement, founding dean Dr. Miko Rose said that not only were his talents the right fit for IUP, but his passion for rural health initiatives and to recruitment and retention were also standout qualifications. Smith said that the enthusiasm for IUP’s new school is “palpable, both on campus and in the community,” and was ready to work in an exciting environment.
