The Pirates are off today and will welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks to PNC Park for a three-game series starting tomorrow.
Before the game, the Pirates activated outfielder Bryan De La Cruz, who started in right field and went 2-for-4. De la Cruz was acquired in a trade deadline deal with the Marlins on Tuesday. Infielder Isaiah Kiner-Falefa also joined the team and took grounders before the game. He is expected to be activated from the injured list as early as tomorrow’s game with the Diamondbacks in Pittsburgh. Kiner-Falefa was acquired in a trade with the Blue Jays on Tuesday.
Outfielder Joshua Palacios was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring injury.

But it could also have been a nod to another famous number 24 at shortstop in Pirates history…Dick Groat. Or it could have symbolized Griffin’s hopes to be the type of number 24 who played in the outfield…Barry Bonds.

The Pirates also signed their 11th round draft choice, lefty pitcher Jacob Bimbi, and 17th round pick, outfielder Andrew Patrick. That leaves them with only two picks left to sign by today’s 5 PM deadline, both right-handed pitchers: 16th rounder Brian Curley and 20th round choice Taylor Penn.
