The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry reports that Indiana County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went down four-tenths of a percentage point over the month of July to 3.6 percent. This marks one of the lowest rates in the six-county region but it’s up three-tenths of a point from July 2023.
Across the region, Armstrong and Westmoreland County had the lowest unemployment rates at 3.4 percent, followed by Indiana County, then Jefferson County at 3.9 percent, and Cambria and Clearfield Counties at four percent.
Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went unchanged over the month at 3.4 percent, but the national unemployment went up two-tenths of a point to 4.3 percent.
Total nonfarm jobs decreased by 300 over the month to 28,300. Jobs in the nine published industry super sectors went essentially unchanged over the month. The largest shift came from leisure and hospitality, and mining, logging, and construction, all of which decreased by 300 jobs.
