The Penguins still have not announced their training camp schedule but the players are already assembling at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. Some of the veterans are already skating, including Sidney Crosby, and the Buffalo Sabres’ Prospect Challenge begins next Friday, September 13th.
The Pens will play the Bruins on Friday, the Senators on Saturday, and the Sabres on Monday the 16th. Among those expected to suit up are recently-acquired forward Rutger McGroarty, 2022 first round draft choice Owen Pickering, the Pens’ two second round draft picks this year, defenseman Harrison Brunicke and forward Tanner Howe, forward Tristan Broz, 2024 ECHL Goaltender of the Year Taylor Gauthier, and Sergei Murashov, the highly-rated young Russian goaltender who is playing his first season in North America.
Also expected to skate with the Penguins’ prospects in Buffalo are the two youngsters acquired in the Jake Guentzel trade, forwards Vasily Ponomarev and Ville Koivunen.
