A scheduled superload trip through parts of Western Pennsylvania has been delayed until tomorrow.
The reason for the 24 hour delay is due to a permit processing situation where additional approvals needed to go through, according to PennDOT District 10 Community Relations Coordinator Christina Gibbs. The route for the superload from Columbiana, Ohio to Allegheny County has not changed, and for our area, the load will get off I-80 in Brookville, and take Routes 36, 436 and 119 through Jefferson County. It will remain on 119 in Indiana County and will turn off onto Route 22 West headed towards Westmoreland and Allegheny Counties.
The cargo checks in at 136 feet long, nearly 28 feet wide and weighs 150 tons. It is expected to take up two lanes of traffic and travel at most 25-30 miles an hour. Drivers can expect traffic backups and delays associated with the trip, and are advised to take an alternate route tomorrow. People are also being asked not to gather along the road sides to watch it go by for the safety of themselves and the drivers involved.
