A preliminary hearing is set for a man charged with attempted arson connected with an incident in Saltsburg last Thursday.
46-year-old Casey Kern Bush of Saltsburg faces two counts of attempted arson and possession of explosive or incendiary material, and single counts of attempted reckless burning, risking a catastrophe, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, burglary and a summary charge of driving an unregistered vehicle for the incident on September 12th. State police were summoned at 12:27 PM to a home in the 700 block of Salt Street for a disturbance involving Bush at his former home, which was believed to be vacant. When troopers arrived, they found the door forced open and Bush was gone, but they also found two overturned fuel cans and discovered that suspected diesel fuel and paint was spilled all over the floors. They also found several burnt and discarded cigarettes in the structure where the fuel was spilled. Troopers called in the Saltsburg and Tunnelton-Conemaugh Township fire departments and the county HAZMAT team to clean the area.
Bush was found later that day by troopers from the Kiski Valley barracks in Loyalhanna Township. When officers confronted him, they found the same color paint on his clothes and that he smelled of diesel fuel.
He is now in Indiana County Jail as he could not post $100,000 cash bail. The preliminary hearing will be held at 11:00 AM on September 23rd in front of district judge Christopher Welch. That’s a few days after a preliminary hearing on an unrelated case where he faces three counts of making terroristic threats.
