James Richard Palmer, 69, of Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Born to William Palmer and Beulah Isenberg, Jim was one of 11 siblings in a large and loving family.
Jim dedicated 30 years of his life working for S.W. Jack and in the mines. Outside of work, he was happiest when he had his hands busy—whether working on cars, tinkering with just about anything, or enjoying outdoor activities like hunting. He also loved taking trips to the beach and the family camp. Some of his favorite moments were spent sitting on his porch with a cigarette and McDonald’s coffee, or parked in the Walmart lot, people-watching. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his large, often chaotic, but always loving family. Being surrounded by his grandkids and great-grandkids, whom he adored, was the highlight of his life.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Rose (Mountain) Palmer; his children, Pam (Bill) Vojtek of Indiana, Steven (Leia) Palmer of Indiana, Brian “BJ” (Leanna) Palmer of North Carolina, and Jason Palmer of Indiana; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren—so many that he often affectionately described them as “a f**k ton”—and he loved them all dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Jr., and sister, Alice.
Jim was known as the most loved “pain in the ass” anyone ever met. He never took life too seriously, often dropping his favorite word—“f**k”—into conversations, and he didn’t care much for making a fuss over anything. His straightforward, down-to-earth nature and his unapologetic sense of humor will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 12 to 2 pm at the John A Lefdahl Funeral Home. Funeral service will immediately follow in the Lefdahl Chapel with Pastor Brandon Mountan and Leo Mountan, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
