The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has adopted two new federal regulations that should help accelerate broadband expansion across the commonwealth, especially in rural areas. The PUC voted 4-1 last week to implement a Federal Communications Commission rule that mandates that the owners of utility poles share inspection information with companies seeking to attach to their poles. The second FCC rule stipulates that disputes between pole owners and attachers must be resolved within sixty days
The PUC also is urging the parties involved in pole disputes to use the commission’s mediation unit rather than file formal complaints to resolve their issues.
