After a series of pretrial procedures last week, jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday for 35-year-old Joshua Brink, the Smicksburg man charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI and related offenses in the 2021 death of Douglas Dalessio in West Mahoning Township. Brink’s SUV collided with Dalessio’s riding mower in a yard off Barnard Road. Additional felony charges include two counts of accidents involving death and aggravated assault by vehicle.
Last week’s proceedings include pretrial statements by the prosecution and defense, and a defense motion to limit or exclude certain evidence.
Brink is currently housed in the Indiana County Jail.
Jury selection is also scheduled for the trial of 22-year-old Jamie White Jr. of Indiana, who is accused of the armed robbery of a woman in September 2022 near South 7th Street and Gompers Avenue. The victim was not injured.
After being deemed not competent to stand trial in February of 2023, White was declared competent fvie months later. He faces two felony counts of robbery plus related misdemeanor offenses.
There are two other trials for which jury selection is scheduled on Monday. One is the DUI trial of Matthew Wodowski of Blairsville, and the other is the trial of Daniel Lukehart of Pitttsburgh, who is charged with five counts of endangering the welfare of children.
