A group of volunteers will be at the White Township Recreation Complex today to work on eradicating the invasive multiflora rose from the grounds. According to the township, the Plant Patrol group will be at the complex from 1:00 to 4:00 PM trying to pull the plant, specifically targeting the wooded area of the lower disc golf course between the parking area at the S&T Bank Arena and the George Lenz Soccer Fields and Playtime Park Playground. You are invited to join them and are advised to dress in long pants, protective footwear and gloves, and be armed with tools to get the job done.
Volunteers are invited to join the Plant Patrol at another event this Thursday from 4:15 to 6:15 along the Laurel Run Trail at Yellow Creek State Park, where they will be pulling by hand the invasive periwinkle weed near the park office. That area is wet and muddy right now, which should make it easier to pull the plant.
On November 2nd, the group will journey to Pine Ridge Park in Burrell Township, where they will once again be pulling the invasive multiflora rose from 9:00 AM to noon.
And a reminder that White Township’s leaf collection begins tomorrow. The five-week program will run on Mondays through November 18th, with the exception of Veterans Day on Monday, November 11th. Leaf collection that week will be on Tuesday the 12th. The collection will begin at 7 AM. Crews will only take biodegradable paper sacks weighing no more than 50 pounds, placed by the street or road at the edge of residents’ lawns. They won’t go onto driveways or yards and they will not pick up plastic bags or un-bagged piles of leaves.
