The PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources says now is the best time for fall leaf color in Indiana County, some surrounding counties and most of the state.
According to DCNR’s latest report, Indiana, Armstrong, Jefferson, Cambria and Westmoreland counties are currently in the “best color” category along with 32 others, mostly in the northwest, central and east-central parts of the state. Clearfield county along with 9 other counties are in the “starting to fade” category, meaning that there is still some nice color, but it probably won’t last more than a few days. Much of the southern counties in Pennsylvania are still in the “approaching best color”
Foresters in Gallitzin State Park, which serves Indiana, Blair and Cambria Counties say this will be peak time. Maples, black gum, and birch are showing vibrant colors. Cherry and beech have lost most of their leaves already due to recent windy conditions.
