At a preliminary hearing yesterday, charges of first-degree murder and others were held for court in Armstrong County for a suspect in the killing of 56-year-old David Kimberly.
34-year-old Cody Weiland also faces charges of criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and making false reports in connection with the death of Kimberly, who was reported missing on September 28th. His family said that he had packed some belongings in a van and left home on the 23rd. His van was found on October 12th in a wooded area off Reefer Hollow Road south of Rural Valley, and police found someone had taken measures to hide the van. Investigators say they talked with Weiland, and he confessed to killing Kimberly, ditching the van, and moving the body to a remote location in Jefferson County, where it was found by authorities.
Weiland remains in jail due to the charge of first-degree murder. No word yet on when his trial in Armstrong County Court will be held.
