A sentencing hearing is scheduled today for one of the two suspects who burned a car along Route 110 in 2023.
28-year-old Austin Milanos of Hillsboro, Illinois will go before Judge Michael Clark today for the sentencing hearing. Police said on September 15th, he and Matthew Lee Smith of Indiana stole a vehicle from Indiana Borough, drove it to an area near railroad tracks along Route 110 and doused the car with gasoline before setting it on fire by throwing lit paper towels on it. Smith was hurt in the ensuing explosion and was treated at Indiana Regional Medical Center before he was charged.
Milanos pleaded guilty to reckless burning or exploding in February of this year, while charges of receiving stolen property and disorderly conduct were not prosecuted. He will also be sentenced on a charge of burglary from a case on September 7th of that same year.
Smith had a criminal call hearing cancelled earlier this month.
Also due for sentencing today is 50-year-old James William Taylor of McGrann. He will be sentenced to guilty pleas of possessing a precursor substance to unlawfully manufacture a controlled substance in two cases involving meth production. One case dates back to August 23rd of 2022 and the other from June 22nd of 2021.
