An Indiana man was sentenced yesterday for child endangerment charges.
Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi announced that 49-year-old William Jefferson was ordered to serve between 15 months and three years in state prison and a year of probation after his release for four counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He pleaded guilty to those charges in April of this year.
The charges stemmed from an incident on February 25th of 2023 when Indiana Borough Police were called out to perform a welfare check. Police found that four children had been left alone while he went to a bar in Johnstown. The home was also in deplorable condition.
Manzi said in a statement that this was “not a case where he left to buy the children food, work for income or obtain necessary medicine. He left to selfishly sit in a bar miles away.”
