The River Valley School District has announced it will receive $3 million from the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant program.
The grant will give the district $600,000 a year over the next five years. It is meant to be used for students attending high-poverty and low-performing schools to help them meet and exceed state and local academic standards.
Superintendent Philip Martel said that they were grateful to receive the grant, as it will “aid in our ongoing efforts to make education more accessible and relevant to all students.” Director of community programming and services Kathy Monko called the grant a “game-changer” and will allow them to “provide a nurturing environment beyond the classroom setting. We can now offer programs that truly resonate with the needs and aspirations of our families, helping to build a stronger, more connected community.”
This grant will support various activities complementing the academic curriculum in the district, including literacy and educational services for families.
