Indiana County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went down over the month of September.
The state Department of Labor and Industry reports that the rate went down four-tenths of a percentage point to 4.0% for Indiana County. Comparing Indiana to neighboring counties, Westmoreland County is 3.4%, Jefferson is at 3.7%, Clearfield is 3.9%, Cambria is tied with Indiana County at 4.0% and Armstrong County is the highest in the region at 4.1%
The lowest unemployment rate in the state is Montour County at 2.4%. The highest is Forest at 5.5%.
Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went unchanged in September, holding at 3.4%. The national rate went down one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.1%.
Total nonfarm jobs in the county went up by 1500 to 29.000 in September. The largest movement was a seasonal increase of 1100 in the government sector as students went back to school. Trade, transportation and utilities; and leisure and hospitality also went up by 200 jobs for each super-sector. Other areas remained virtually unchanged.
