Local political leaders are offering their reaction to the latest comments from President Joe Biden concerning Trump supporters.
In a statement reacting to former President Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden, President Biden said during a call to the Hispanic advocacy group Voto Latino that he disagreed with remarks made by comic Tony Hinchcliffe. In a speech, Hinchcliffe compared U.S. Territory Puerto Rico to a “floating island of garbage”, which has sparked its own backlash. Biden called the people of Puerto Rico “Good, decent honorable people,” but added “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.” Biden took to social media to further explain the comments, saying Trump’s demonization of Latinos was “unconscionable” and meant that the comments by Hinchcliffe were garbage.
Indiana County Republican Party Chairman Randy Degenkolb said he was offended by Biden, he says a lot of low blows have been thrown.
He added that the campaigns need to get better when it comes to discussion points.
We have also reached out to the Democratic Party Chair Lynne Alvine for comment.
