The new State Board of Higher Education has selected Kate Shaw as its executive director. Shaw is the Deputy Secretary for Higher Education in the state Department of Education, and has been involved in higher education reform and analysis for decades, including a stint in the administration of former Governor Ed Rendell.
The new board created by Governor Josh Shapiro is tasked with devising a strategic plan for Pennsylvania’s higher education institutions, including helping financially struggling schools, and creating a performance-based funding formula for the state-related schools.
The new board first met in September. Its eighteen members include Bobbie Jo Zapor, Library Assistant at IUP and president of the local chapter of AFSCME.
