A reminder that work is coming this week on the railroad crossing leading into New Florence off Huff Road in West Wheatfield Township. Huff Road will close on the New Florence end of Mulligan Hill. Drivers can use a variety of routes to get into New Florence, including detouring through Bolivar and using Creek Road to Route 711, or through Armagh and Seward on routes 56 and 711.
The work on the railroad crossing will be between 6 AM this Thursday and 6:30 AM on Friday.
The replacement of the deck on a bridge carrying Torrance Road over McGee Run in Derry Township will begin next year and the public plans display is available online now. The tiny span is rated “poor” by PennDOT says bids for the job will be solicited next month, aiming for construction to begin in spring or summer. Plans are for a temporary signal to control the traffic, with the bridge remaining open.
You can see the plans by visiting the PennDOT District 12 website, selecting Design and Construction projects, Westmoreland County, and “Torrance Bridge Preservation”. They will remain posted through November 14th. The bridge was built in 1952.
