Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has instituted a ban on campfires in state parks and forests.
The ban is due to the dry conditions that have persisted across the state thanks to the lack of rain, warm temperatures and low humidity. The DCNR reported over 100 wildfires that were reported last week and believe there were many other wildfires that went unreported. Not only has it strained state and local resources but several firefighters were also injured in the last week.
The department also advises those going to other campsites to check for possible municipal and county-wide burn bans that may be in effect before any outdoor burning.
