Indiana County firefighters continued battling brush fires Thursday afternoon as two more were reported in White Township.
The first happened shortly after 1 o’clock as 10 fire departments, state police, DCNR officials, and Penelec crews were summoned to Lower Twolick Drive for a fire that took out at least 15 to 20 acres of land. Crews eventually had to split up as a tree near the edge of the field caught fire and the original blaze continued east, closing in on a nearby home.
Mandy Burgoon, Fire Forester with Gallitzin State Forest, said this was an example of how quickly fire spreads in dry conditions.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No word on if anyone was injured.

The second brush fire was reported around 2:42 p.m. along South 6th Street. Indiana, Marion Center, and Aultman firefighters were dispatched. No details are available at this time. These mark the 78th and 79th brush fire this year in Indiana County.
In addition to the two fires, state police had to shut down a portion of Route 119 near Rayne Elementary School to investigate a one-vehicle accident. Reconstruction crews were called in and traffic along Route 119 North was diverted to Kimmel Road.
