Republicans will hold on to the majority in the Pennsylvania Senate.
After the last elections involving the senate, the Republican party held a 28-22 majority, but that was threatened with several seats up for election this year. Some of the key wins in the state included Dan Laughlin retaining his seat in the 49th district, which is a portion of Erie County, and Devlin Robinson winning reelection in the 37th district, which includes part of Allegheny County. Both victories came by some narrow margins. There could also be a flip of a seat out of District 5 in Philadelphia County, where Democrat Jimmy Dillon ran against Republican Joe Picozzi. Piccozzi leads in the vote count by nine-tenths of a percentage point, so the race is too close to call. But with the two wins reported, the Senate has a 27-22 majority.
As far as the state house goes, that is still too close to call. 102 seats are needed to take the majority, and as of right now, Republicans have 101 seats, while Democrats have 100. One race that is too close is Democrat Sean Dougherty against Republican Aizaz Gill, with Dougherty having a slight lead of 1.8 percentage points. The district represents Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. The other race is in Cambria County as Frank Burns, the incumbent Democrat, ran against Republican Amy Bradley. 34.1% of the votes in this race have been counted, and so far, Frank burns has 19.5% while Bradley has 14.6%. The winner of that race could determine who has the slim majority for the PA House.
