State police have placed a Blairsville man in custody after he tried to flee troopers yesterday.
31-year-old Andrew Joseph Ostrawski was seen by Blairsville Borough and State Police riding a bicycle near the intersection of South Stewart and East Brown Streets when he failed to obey a stop sign. A trooper followed Ostrawski to a home on Wynn Street and saw him get off the bike and try to go inside.
Activating his body cam, the trooper approached him and advised him of the stop sign violation. A woman in the building opened the door for him and he told the trooper he would be back after getting a drink. Ostrawski then fled upstairs and closed the door behind him after the trooper ordered him to stay outside. When the trooper opened the door, he drew his taser and ordered Ostrawski to the ground, at which he complied without further incident.
A field sobriety test was administered and Ostrawski was deemed under the influence of a controlled substance. Police also found in a backpack he had with him containing several stamp bags of suspected meth.
Ostrawski is charged with DUI, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, evading arrest or detention on foot and public drunkenness. A preliminary hearing is set for December 11th.
