Officials with the Federal Trade Commission are warning residents of a scam that involves the use of QR codes.
The scams, called “Quishing Attacks”, typically see QR codes sent as email attachments and will appear to be from a legitimate sender. When scanned, the code will direct people to a malicious link that asks for personal details, but instead, it attempts to install malware to your device or capture a multi-factor authentication token to bypass login credentials.
As we mentioned in a report last week, troopers with the Pennsylvania State Police ask residents to discuss common scams with family and friends and to stay up-to-date on the latest scams both on the regional and national scene. If you run into a quishing scam, contact your local law enforcement agency or the Indiana County Sheriff’s Office.
