Grants from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will be coming to Indiana and Armstrong Counties for park, recreation and conservation projects.
The money is coming from the department’s Community Conservation Partnership Program, which is administered by the DCNR Bureau of Recreation and Conservation. It will provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and other non-profit organizations.
Among the recipients are:
- Tide Trail in Center Township as $313,500 will be used by the Indiana County Conservation District to build 3.7 miles of trail from the intersection of Route 119 and Lucerne Road to Lucerne Park and Route 954. This includes three trailheads, rehabilitation of one bridge and other improvements.
- Armstrong Trail Development, who will receive $234,700 to develop the Armstrong Trail including rehabbing portions of the trail from 17th Street in Ford City to Tub Mill in Manor Township and from 1st Avenue to Eljer Way in Ford City, and to install a trailhead, ADA access and make other site improvements.
- Whelan Park in Kittanning as $60,000 will be used to install play equipment and make other improvements.
State Senator Joe Pittman said that he was happy with the CCPP recognizing the importance of these projects, and that the investments will help build many recreational and natural resources in the region.
