The Pirates’ Paul Skenes is the National League Rookie of the Year. Skenes was 11-3 with a 1.96 ERA in 23 starts with 170 strikeouts in 133 innings, and he held opposing batters to a .198 average. He beat out Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill and Brewers outfielder Jackson Churio, and Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga in voting by the Baseball Writers of America.
Jason Bay is the only other Pirate to win BBWA Rookie of the Year, in 2004.
Yankees pitcher Luis Gil won the American League Rookie of the Year.

The Baseball Hall of Fame has released its ballot, and it includes Mariners legends Ichiro Suzuki and Félix Hernández, along with CC Sabathia and former Pirates catcher Russell Martin, all of whom are eligible for induction for the first time this year. Billy Wagner, Alex Rodriguez, Andruw Jones, Carlos Beltrán and Manny Ramirez are among the returning candidates. Wagner is in his final year of eligibility on the regular ballot. The new Hall of Fame class will be announced on January 21st.
