Indiana County Election officials will start their state-mandated recount of the US Senate Race today.
The recount was triggered by state law as the margin of victory between Republican challenger Dave McCormick and Democrat Senator Bob Casey, Jr. was less than half a percentage point when all the votes were tabulated across the state. The state-mandated recount must start by today and completed by noon on November 26th, with results reported to the state Department of the Commonwealth by noon next Wednesday.
In the statewide race, McCormick currently has a .24% lead over Casey. According to the unofficial results from the county, McCormick won by a landslide with 65.6% of the vote compared to Casey’s 31%.
Indiana County Commissioners Chairman Mike Keith does not anticipate any snags in the county’s recount process.
The recount will begin in the Commissioners Meeting Room at 2:00 this afternoon.
