The Pirates’ Paul Skenes finished third in the National League Cy Young Award voting last night. Atlanta’s Chris Sale won the award with the Phillies’ Zack Wheeler second. Tigers ace Tarik Skubal won the AL Cy Young.
The league MVPs will be named tonight. The overwhelming favorites are the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani in the NL and the Yankees’ Aaron Judge in the AL. The other finalists in the National League are the Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte and the Mets’ Francisco Lindor. In the American league, the other finalists are the Yankees’ Juan Soto and the Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr.
The Pirates have promoted longtime bullpen catcher Jordan Comadena to Major League catching coach. He’s been with the team since 2016. He’s the third coaching hire of the offseason joining the new hitting coach, Matt Hague and pitching consultant Brent Strom.
