Two people from Armstrong County were honored by PennDOT for their work on an attachment for plow trucks.
PennDOT District 10 Armstrong County manager Aaron Raible and PennDOT welder Corey Neal were both given Innovation Awards by the state agency. It is given to those who create efficiencies and implement best practices, recognizing some of the best and most innovative ideas cultivated by PennDOT employees across the Department. The two were recognized for an air foil attachment for their plow trucks. The air foil directs air to the back of a plow truck while in motion to keep the back side of the truck clear and increase visibility of the trucks. The attachment was piloted in Oregon and made its way to Pennsylvania.
Not only will it help with the truck’s visibility, there’s also less time spent cleaning the tailgates of the truck, more time on the roads and it will help the equipment last longer. The air foil was piloted in District 10 last year, and this year, it will be put to the test as it will be attached to plows that could go to the turnpike, I-80 or I-79. They also want to test the truck on a lower volume route where the truck would go at slow speeds.
If those tests are successful, PennDOT District 10 Executive Brian Allen said they would expand its use throughout the district.
