Last night, the Center Township Supervisors heard from the vice president of Homer City Redevelopment, LLC concerning the power plant property and the closure of Power Plant Road.
Robin Gorman confirmed that the Power Plant Road will close officially on December 9th for an indefinite period of time as preparation begins for demolition at the plant as part of the conversion from coal to natural gas. She said that the road will be closed at the northern end of Power Plant Road, with the southern closure past the curve in the road to avoid turnarounds in a residential area. She added that the road will be closed to the public for safety reasons, but the gates installed there will open for emergency personnel.
The process is expected to start early next spring and take two years to complete. Gorman anticipates that not just the power plant will be at the facility, but the company hopes to attract other businesses.
She said that the company wants to remain as transparent as they can about the process, and she asks that people contact her with any questions or rumors that come up. She also said that she will come to other meetings to keep the public updated on the process.
