A man from Guatemala is due in district court today for a preliminary hearing.
Blairsville police charged 22-year-old Rony Gomez Lopez with child endangerment, fleeing or attempting to elude police, simple assault, evading arrest on foot, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and DUI for a chase in Blairsville on August 25th. Officers were initially called out for a report of a woman and an infant jumping from a moving vehicle on South Spring Street. As the two were treated by Citizens’ Ambulance EMTs, Lopez returned to the scene and then fled when police tried to conduct a traffic stop. The van Lopez was driving hit a retaining wall along East Brown Street. Lopez then tried to continue to flee on foot, leaving a three-year-old child in the van. Police used a taser to subdue him.
The woman claimed that Lopez was punching her when she and the infant fell out.
Lopez has been in Indiana County Jail since his arrest as bail was denied in his case.
