Paul Eugene Myers Born December 5, 1928, at home to Pearl and George Myers in Homer City, Pennsylvania. Paul died December 4, 2024. He had one sister, Amy Isabel and two brothers, Boyd and Tom.
Paul is survived by his three daughters, Susan Adams, Lynn Kennedy (partner John Scannapieco), and Jill (Harry) Morningstar; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen in 2019.
Growing up where he was born, he was a good student, he often helped his father with his projects, and he enjoyed outdoor adventures with his brothers. After high school graduation, he attended and graduated from Bliss Electrical School, Washington D.C., in 1950. Paul met Helen through a mutual friend on IUP campus. It was love at first sight and they were married October 13, 1950. Having been drafted into the Army, he was soon on his way to basic training in February 1951, before heading to the Korean War. T
here he served two years as a radar specialist. He returned in 1953 to officially begin married life with Helen in Indiana.
Paul began his career in electrical engineering as a draftsman at Syntron in Homer City. He spend his entire professional life there. Syntron became FMC, and Paul became semi-conductor engineering supervisor. He retired in 1991 after 40 years of service.
Paul always kept busy and had many interests. There was a garden every year and he enjoyed woodworking and remodeling projects. Paul has said that his biggest accomplishment was building the cabin in Brush Valley with his friend, Bill Kelly. They were so proud that they built it without power tools. The clay tennis court that they installed there was host to many a match among friends. Being active was always a priority with Paul. He played tennis regularly and became an avid bike rider, pedaling through trails around the state. Even in his 90s, he was a regular at the exercise classes at the senior center. Paul will always be remembered for his hearty appetite. The way to his heart was surely through his stomach. He enjoyed many homemade pies and ice cream, lunch at Dob-Bros, and take out at Roseann’s.
Paul and Helen made 16 cross country road trips to visit their daughter Susan’s family in Washington state, taking different routes each time. They adored all their grandchildren and attended graduations and performances and took vacations with them. The best vacation was a week at the Bar M Ranch in Oregon for Paul and Helen’s 50th anniversary. It provided lasting memories for the entire family with only a splash of danger. Very recently, Paul shared a life lesson that he would want us to know and that is to take care of your family. Paul lived his life to that end.
