Stanley McKay “Chappy” Chaplin, 88, of Indiana, PA (formerly of Clarksburg) passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, in St. Andrew’s Village, Indiana.
The son of Frank and Grace E. (Shrum) Chaplin, he was born on July 9, 1936, in Clarksburg, PA where he lived most of his life.
He started his married life at a farm in Clarksburg that was filled with a variety of animals, his favorite being his horses, Tammy and Topsy. He kept the farm in immaculate condition and could be found snoozing in the hay wagon at times. In addition to farm work, he was some type of truck driver his entire life. After retiring from over 40 years with Sunoco, he and his wife, Bertha (Bersie) moved to Indiana. Throughout his life he enjoyed lots of outdoor activities including snowmobiling, four wheeling, and motorcycling. He was an avid Nascar fan, especially Dale Earnhardt. He took that interest to a new level by collecting Nascar collectible vehicles that were displayed proudly in his home. In his later years, he and Bersie were known for just getting in the car with no particular destination in mind, other than to find a good place to eat.
Chap was known for his hard work, generosity, orneriness, and storytelling. One can truly say there will never be another Chap.
Surviving is the love of his life of 57 years, Bertha B. “Bersie” (Howard) Chaplin, whom he married on November 9, 1967, his sisters-in-law, aunts, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Grace Elaine in 2020.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 11 AM until the time of the funeral service at 2 PM in the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA with Pastor John Manon officiating.
Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana, PA.
