The IUP Council of Trustees on Thursday approved an increase in costs for the university’s dining plans.
The cost rate recommendation came from the IUP Pricing and Tuition Model Workgroup and represents the first price adjustment for meal plans since 2018. The increases range from $170 to $390, depending on the plan. For the most popular plan, which is the 14 meals a week and $350 in flex dollars, it is an increase of $325 to $2,121 a semester. In his address, IUP president Dr. Michael Driscoll said that inflationary pressures and the rising cost of food were the reasons for the increase.
Also approved yesterday was an increase in the one-person, private suite-style room price by $335 to $5,600 a semester. This will affect only Delaney, Putt, Wallwork and Stephenson Hall along with the Suites on Pratt. Similar changes for the Northern Suites, Ruddock Hall, and the Suites on Maple East must be approved by the Foundation for IUP board of directors. All other room rates will remain the same.
The new room and board rates go into effect in the Fall 2025 semester.
The board also approved a tiered residential housing scholarship. The University will continue its $1000 housing scholarship for some first-year students who choose to live on-campus, but if they remain on campus, that scholarship will bump up to $1500 in year two and $2000 in years three and four.
