For the first time in over a year, there was a change in Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate.
The Department of Labor and Industry reports the state’s unemployment rate increased one-tenth of a point to 3.5 percent in November, marking the first change since October 2023. Despite the slight uptick, Pennsylvania’s rate was well below the national unemployment rate, which also rose one-tenth of a point to 4.2 percent.
The state civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, went down 24,000 over the month to 6,507,000 in November. Total nonfarm jobs were up 90,300 with gains in eight of the 11 industry supersectors. Education and health services saw the biggest change, gaining 47,300 jobs.
Countywide statistics will be released at the end of the month.
