Shirley Darlene (Smail) Douglas, 78, of Clymer, PA passed away at her home on Sunday, December 22, 2024, where she was surrounded by her loving family.
The daughter of Richard Leroy and Nelly “Pauline” (Skillman) Smail, Sr., she was born on February 26, 1946 in Westover, PA.
Shirley attended Purchase Line High School and went on to further her education by obtaining training to be a certified nursing assistant. Over the years she was employed as a CNA with nursing home and personal care homes, such as Mountain View Nursing Home in Hillsdale, PA; Salsgiver’s Personal Care Home in Glen Campbell, PA; Rustic Manor near Clymer, PA and St. Andrew’s Village in Indiana, PA.
On August 26, 1967 she wed Clifford Meade Douglas and they shared over fifty-seven years of marriage together.
Shirley was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Two of her favorite pastimes were tending to her flower gardens and decorating her home for the holidays. Most of all, Shirley thoroughly loved spending time with her husband, kids and grandkids.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford Douglas of Clymer, PA; her six children: Pamela Johnson and husband, Jack of Glen Campbell, PA; Paul Douglas and wife, Wendy of Dixonville, PA; James Douglas of Clymer, PA; Carey Douglas-Stack and husband, William Stack of Indiana, PA; Shannon Shields of Home, PA and Clifford Douglas, II and companion, Sheila of Dixonville, PA.
Also surviving are her beloved ten grandchildren: James Rushnok; Paul Rushnok; Jon Douglas; Hayley Douglas; Anthony Douglas; Maverick Douglas; Tanner Stack; Alyssa Stack; Noel Poling and Grant Shields III and eight great grandchildren: Alex Rushnok; Matthew Rushnok; Elizabeth Rushnok; J.J. Rushnok: Drew Rushnok; Madison Poling; Savannah Poling and Nevaeh Poling; her sister, Patricia R. Miller of Arcadia, PA; her three brothers: Richard L. Smail, Jr. and wife, Rose Marie of FL; William C. Smail and wife, Peg of Falls Creek, PA and John P. Skillman of Arcadia, PA and her brother-in-law, Robert J. Scott of Clymer, PA.
Preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Victoria Douglas and her sister, Wanda Scott.
Family and friends will be received from 6-8:00 p. m. on Monday, December 23, 2024 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA. After Christmas, visitation will continue at the funeral home from Noon – 1:00 p.m. on December 26, 2024, where a 1:00 p. m. funeral service will immediately follow the visitation. Pastor Robert Bartlebaugh will officiate. Interment will be at the Rowley Cemetery in Hillsdale, PA.
