The Pitt Panthers take the field in Detroit today to close their season against Toledo in the GameAbove Sports Bowl. Pitt started the season 7-0 but then came crashing down with five straight losses. Toledo is also 7-5 and has lost its last two.
Quarterback Eli Holstein is with the team but his availability has been a mystery. On November 9th, he suffered a head injury against Virginia, and when he returned on November 23rd, he left the field on a cart with his lower left leg encased in an air cast.
If Holstein can’t go, Pitt will give the ball to walk-on David Lynch, the fourth-string quarterback, after the transfers of Nate Yarnell and Ty Dieffenbach. Wide receiver Konata Mumpfield will also sit out the game rather than risk injury as he prepares for the NFL Draft.
Today’s game kicks off at 2 o’clock on WCCS. The pregame airs at noon.
Other bowl games today are the Rate Bowl in Phoenix, where Rutgers plays Kansas State at 5:30, and the 68 Ventures Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, at 9 o’clock tonight, with Arkansas State playing Bowling Green.
