A Mount Pleasant woman charged with stealing more than $50,000 from the United band boosters was sentenced Friday morning in Indiana County Court.
President Judge Thomas Bianco ordered 57-year-old Lara Lee Brown to serve six months to two years in Indiana County Jail and pay court costs and fines for a felony charge of theft by unlawful taking. She will also serve the same sentence for three additional felony charges, those being theft by deception, failure to make required disposition of funds, and receiving stolen property. All of the sentences will run concurrently.
Brown pleaded guilty to those charges in September after it was discovered that she stole the money using checks, ATM withdrawals, and purchases at different businesses while serving as the organization’s treasurer between 2019 and 2023.
The funds in question were raised by students for a trip to Disney World.
