Plea and sentencing hearings are scheduled for today in Indiana County Court, including a hearing for a woman charged with embezzling money from a school’s band boosters account.
57-year-old Lara Lee Brown of Mt. Pleasant pleaded guilty in September of last year to charges of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, theft by failure to make required disposition of funds and receiving stolen property. She stole over $50,000 from the United Band Boosters bank account during her time as treasurer of the organization between 2019 and 2023 through checks she wrote to herself, ATM withdraws and purchases from different businesses. The money was raised by students to go to Walt Disney World.
Due for a plea hearing today is Alamin Woods of Indiana, who will turn 22 next week. She is charged with two counts each of simple assault and harassment for incidents that go back to last February.
