Thursday night, the Homer-Center School Board received reports on student progress from the Future Ready PA index.
The Junior-Senior High School currently ranks first among secondary schools in the region with a score of 84.8. Much of that was due to high growth scores, including 100% growth in math, 95.33% growth in English-Language Arts and 87% growth in science scores. At the elementary level, the school ranked 6th out of 15 schools in the region, with a score of 80.3, which is a vast turnaround from 2017, when the district had a score of 55. Superintendent Ralph Cecere was very proud of the work that has been done at the Elementary School.
Similar growth marks were seen at the elementary level for math, with 75% growth in English-Language Arts, and 94% growth in science.
The board approved a unique program for the old marching band uniforms. They approved disposing the old band and guard uniforms as new ones arrive, allowing the option of turning any uniform in reasonable shape into keepsake pillows that could be sold as a fundraiser.
