A U.S. Attorney has announced he will step down.
Attorney Eric Olshan announced that his resignation will take effect at midnight on January 19th. During his tenure, he has helped tackle violent crime and serious drug offenders, focusing on some of the large-scale drug operations, including ones that went through the Western Pennsylvania region. One of those being the breakup of a drug ring that resulted in the arrest of 31 people, including Ruby Gill of Indiana.
Other items he worked on with federal investigators included driving down the illicit sale of firearms, scammers, and hate crime prosecution. One of the most memorable cases in that category was the prosecution of Robert Bowers, the Tree of Life gunman who killed 11 people in 2018 while they worshiped at a synagogue in Squirrel Hill.
Olshan was nominated for the position by President Joe Biden in 2023 and was confirmed in June of the same year.
