Governor Josh Shapiro yesterday announced the opening of the application period for the state’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program.
Last year, the program handed out over $318 million to over 520,000 Pennsylvanians under the expanded program, which represented the most money ever distributed through the program. Nearly 100,000 of the 2024 applicants filed for the first time.
The program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians 65 years of age or older, widows and widowers 50 or older and those 18 or older with disabilities. It gives rebates based on their income levels. The program was expanded for the first time in 2023 thanks to bipartisan legislation. The law increased the maximum rebate from $650 to $1100, along with raising income limits for homeowners and renters and tying those limits to cost-of-living adjustments.
