The Pirates have acquired right-handed reliever Chase Shugart from the Boston Red Sox, shipping fellow right hander Matt McShane to Boston.
Shugart made his debut in the majors last season with the BoSox last year, appearing in six games with a 4.15 ERA and one save over 8 2/3 innings, but spent most of the season at Triple-A Worcester. McShane has not yet made his major league debut.
