A special Topps baseball card featuring the Pirates’ Paul Skenes has been claimed by an 11-year-old boy from Los Angeles.
The Paul Skenes 1-of-1 Rookie Debut Patch Autograph card was the object of a search by collectors all over America. The Pirates have offered two season tickets behind home plate for the next 30 years in a trade for the card, along with a softball game for thirty people at PNC Park with coaching from Pirates alumni, a spring training experience with a private tour of Pirates City and LECOM Park, a meet-and-greet with Skenes, two Skenes autographed jerseys and batting practice and warm up with the team.
In addition to all of that, Skenes’ girlfriend, Livvy Dunne, has invited the finder of the card to join her at her PNC Park suite for a Pirates game. The young collector hasn’t revealed if he will accept the trade offer.
PIRATES
The Pirates got around to adding Andrew McCutchen’s name to the roster, almost a month after signing him to a new contract. They even spelled his name correctly on the transaction, unlike this past weekend at PiratesFest, when they misspelled it on his placard at his autograph session. Infielder Tristan Gray was designated for assignment. The team had claimed him off waivers from the A’s in October.
MLB
Cooperstown has three new residents. Outfielder Ichiro Suzuki and pitchers CC Sabathia and Billy Wagner have been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Suzuki fell one vote shy of joining longtime Yankees closer Mariano Rivera as the second player to ever win unanimous support on the first ballot.
