As authorities in Washington D.C. continue identifying victims lost in Wednesday’s deadly crash between an Army Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines plane, IUP officials confirmed that one person aboard the passenger aircraft was a university alumnus.
According to a statement released Friday morning, Donna Smojice Livingston, her husband Peter, and their two daughters, Everly (14) and Alydia (11), were on board when the crash happened Wednesday evening near Reagan National Airport. All remaining passengers and crew members were presumed dead.
IUP Assistant Vice President for University Advancement Jennifer Dunsmore said the loss of Livingston and her family “touches us very personally.” She adds the IUP community joins the Livingstons’ family and friends in mourning their passing, as well as all the lives lost in the tragedy.
