Connie Dae Stewart, 78, of Blairsville, went to be with Jesus on Monday, February 3, 2025. She was born on September 14, 1946, to Doyle V. and Marie (Waddle) Palmo in Latrobe.
Connie graduated from Blairsville High School in 1964, where she was an accomplished clarinetist, participating in District and State band, and was awarded the John Philip Sousa Award for musical excellence. She then went on to study Elementary Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. After graduating from IUP in 1968 and getting married, she started her first job at Blairsville’s Third Ward School as a second-grade teacher.
While in the High School band, she met Charles “Chick” Stewart, and they married June 8, 1968 (6-8-68). After three years of teaching, she put her vocation on hold to start a family. After having her children, Connie became Assistant Librarian at the Blairsville Public Library until retiring in 2014. Connie’s years after her retirement were spent in what she called “her reason for being on Earth,” namely being “Mimi” to her three grandchildren.
Connie was always smiling and was a true and caring friend. She enjoyed tea, word search puzzles, reading, all cats, one dog, and road trips with Chick. She was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles “Chick” Stewart, her son Corey (Karin) Stewart of Bonita Springs, FL, her daughter Lawrie (Neil) Stone of Blairsville, and three grandchildren: Regan Colene Stone, Malcolm “Mac” Stewart Stone, and Bodie Neil Stone.
She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and was a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher at the Blairsville United Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville.
