Indiana County’s Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate went up slightly in December.
The state Department of Labor and Industry reported that Indiana County’s rate went up two-tenths of a percentage point to 4.5 percent. From November to December, the statewide rate went up one-tenth of a point to 3.6 percent while the national rate fell one-tenth of a point to 4.1 percent. Over the 2024 year, the county’s unemployment rate went up four-tenths of a point.
Comparing Indiana County to surrounding counties, Westmoreland County is the lowest at 3.9 percent. Jefferson County’s rate was 4.2 percent, Cambria County is at 4.3 percent, Clearfield and Armstrong counties tied with Indiana for the highest rate at 4.5 percent.
The lowest rate across the state is Adams County at 2.8 percent, while the highest is Cameron County at 6.2 percent.
Total non-farm jobs in Indiana County were essentially unchanged for December at 30,200. During that time, jobs in the nine published industry super-sectors were unchanged.
