With the icy storm expected to hit the area tonight, PennDOT, the Turnpike Commission and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency are advising motorists to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm and to exercise caution if they do have to drive.
A band of snow is expected to cross the state, followed by sleet and freezing rain, and below-freezing temperatures will cause icy conditions. The National Weather Service’s winter weather advisory for Indiana County that starts tonight at 7:00 PM says that less than an inch of snow and one to two tenths of an inch of ice is expected, which could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.
While PennDOT and Turnpike crews will try to pre-treat roads but drivers could still see some icy spots on the roadway, and extra caution should be exercised when going across a bridge or approaching a highway ramp.
