Westmoreland County fire crews dealt with a fire in the attic of a home in Derry Township yesterday afternoon.
Bradenville fire department was joined by six other fire companies for the incident in the 4000 block of Route 982 at 1:20 PM. The fire started as someone was using a torch to solder a copper pipe in a bathroom as part of a renovation project when a piece of vermiculite insulation caught fire. The person doing the work doused the fire with water, but it rekindled and spread to the attic.
Crews had to access the attic using a folding ladder and going through a two-by-two-foot crawlspace. Crews were on the scene for two hours to put the fire out.
The worker had burns on their hands. No other injuries were reported. The home is repairable, but for now the family is staying at a relative’s house.
