The Big Lots store in Indiana is on a list of 200 stores that will be saved from closure due to bankruptcy proceedings.
Variety Wholesalers, the owners of Roses and other discount store chains, released a list of over 200 stores across 15 states that would remain open. In a bankruptcy filing dated Monday, Big Lots says it will transfer the stores as part of its agreement with Gordon Brothers, the restructuring and investment firm that took control of the retailer earlier this year.
It’s unclear what Variety’s plans are for the stores that will remain open, but officials close to the deal say that Variety intends to operate the leases as Big Lots stores. They’re also saying that the list is not final and new locations could be added.
At the start of 2024, Big Lots had over 1300 stores nationwide. That number is now down to 872. The retailer filed for bankruptcy in September of 2024.
